Pulpo is a friendly and comfortable looking slab serif typeface suitable for running text – a Clarendon using the skeleton of Century Schoolbook. Longer extenders give text more air to breathe and improve legibility in small text sizes. Despite the strength and sturdiness of the design, each letter shape carries warmth and an echo of the human hand.

The family has 10 styles (Light–Black including italics) and is ideally suited for editorial, advertising, packaging, web and app design. A massive body combined with low stroke contrast, emphasizing the horizontal elements, make it very suitable on screen and on newsprint paper.

In 2017 Felix Braden decided to cut a full set of glyphs for a manual printrun later released as a digitized font called “Kontiki” on Myfonts and “Pulpo Rust” on Adobe Fonts. To start with, he needed a Clarendon style bold typeface and began to draw one himself on the basis of one of his favourite typefaces: Century Schoolbook. After the manual process he decided to expand the family by a full set of styles and release it as a separate typeface called “Pulpo”.
