The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a UN-based, global organization for the conservation and management of migratory species. For the twelfth conference of the parties in Manila 2017, Territory designed and created the magazine „Tracks“ from scratch. Instead of handing out bland conference papers, the idea was to present the content in a publication that resembles an inflight magazine – because migratory animals are the „frequent travelers“ of the animal kingdom. The concept included double spreads of the „fleet“ and a „route map“ similar to those found in any given inflight magazine. „Tracks“ was produced as a multicover issue with three different covers representing terrestrial, marine and avian species.

Since this is a pro bono project, there was very little budget to spend. Fortunately, we were able to win over many renowned experts of their field to help us at no charge: Matt Willey, art director of the New York Times Magazine, graciously let us use one of his fonts. And the California Academy of Science, publisher of the online magazine „BioGraphic“, helped us track down the photographers of some spectacular wildlife photography.
